Prescription Foot Orthosis (Medical Grade Footwear and Orthotics) are used to support, align, prevent or correct musculoskeletal irregularities to improve function. Our footwear is designed to assist clients to recover from their work-related injury or transport accident by:
- stabilising the injury
- assisting with self-management
- allowing the client to perform activities of daily living more independently
WorkSafe / TAC can pay the reasonable costs of the following:
- Custom-made or orthopaedic footwear that is required because standard off the shelf footwear or pre-injury footwear cannot be worn due to the work-related injury or illness or does not support a client's rehabilitation needs
- Modifications to a client’s pre-injury footwear or off the shelf footwear required as a result of their work-related injury or illness
- Footwear that is required to accommodate an orthosis
A written referral from an appropriately qualified medical specialist or allied health professional is required to utilize our services.
The items must meet the following criteria:
- There is clinical justification that the equipment will measurably improve a worker's function, independence, mobility and safety
- Is safe and effective
- Be likely to achieve measurable improvement in a person’s functioning
- Promote progress toward a person’s functional independence, participation and self-management
- Be for rehabilitation purposes for a work-related or transport accident injury only
- Be delivered in line with the Clinical Framework
